Ocean Summit Hong Kong ¡V "Finding Solutions for Healthy Seas"
Over 120 people attended Hong Kong¡¦s first Ocean Summit, which successfully concluded on 8th March 2008! With passionate and enthusiastic participation from Hong Kong people who care and love our oceans, we collected some very useful ideas for "Finding Solutions for Our Sea."
Speakers for the event included:
Hon. Fred Li Wah-ming, Legislative Council Member
Mr. Douglas Woodring, Open Water Swimming Event Organizer
Ms Yvonne Sadovy, Professor of the Department of Ecology and Biodiversity of the University of Hong Kong
Ms Nicole Wong, Student of Island School
Mr Alvin Lam, Student of Queen¡¦s College
Mr. James Lee, Director of Ocean Sky Diving Training Centre
Chairman of WWF Hong Kong, Mr. Markus Shaw, at the opening of the Ocean Summit.
Their insightful talks depicted different areas of concerns about our marine environment from the perspectives of a sea lover, a scientist and a lawmaker.
The ideas collected were illustrated as eight "Cartaphors" ¡V Cartaphor is a metaphor drawn in the style of a cartoon ¡V by cartoonist Gavin Coates. This lively way of expressing sea-loving messages was greatly enjoyed by children and their families at the event.
All the suggestions and solutions collected from the participants through group discussions will be produced as a report by WWF to be presented to the Hong Kong Government and is downloadable from here.

Voices of the People
Listen to what we have to say? Fish and marine mammals do not know how to protest, vote or speak for themselves. WWF believes the voices of people who genuinely care about our underwater world are most powerful in influencing decision makers. Listen to messages from us - stakeholders of the sea
To conclude the Ocean Summit, all the suggestions and solutions collected from the participants through group discussions are summarised as a report for decision makers in the Hong Kong Government and relevant authorities to hear and consider.
